High School Seniors Earn Eastern U.P. Principals Awards

Megan LaRocque
High school seniors from local school districts were presented with Principals Awards for academic achievement April 15 at Lake Superior State University by the Eastern Upper Peninsula Secondary School Principals Association. To qualify, students earned grade point averages of 3.3 or higher and an ACT score of 24 or higher. The complete list of award recipients was published in The St. Ignace News April 17. The following list contains corrected inf ormation from students at Les Cheneaux Comm unity Schools and LaSalle High School.

LaSalle High School

Megan LaRocque is the daughter of Caroline LaRocque. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and participated in Jazz Band, Pep Band, Concert Band, Marching Band, Steel Band, and swimming. She plans to attend Northern Michigan University and study nursing.

Les Cheneaux Community

Schools

Alison Eberts is the daughter of Jim and Missy Eberts. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and participated in band, BABES, Quiz Bowl, Drama Club, and softball. Her interests include horses, reading, writing, skiing, and swimming. She aspires to be a journalist or work with animals, and plans to attend Northern Michigan University.

Nicole Yeager
Carissa Sudol, the daughter of David Sudol and Linda Sudol, is a member of the National Honor Society, and participated in BABES, Cadet Teaching, Drama Club, Band, YAC, Student Council, and volleyball. She enjoys listening to music and reading. She plans to study pre-dentistry at Ferris State University.

Nicole Yeager is the daughter of David and April Yeager. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and participated in Drama Club, YAC, and Youth Group. Her interests are reading and going to new places. She aspires to be a human rights activist, and plans to attend Wayne State University.

Megan Hill, the daughter of Kevin and Kris Hill, is a member of the National Honor Society, and participated in Drama Club, softball, volleyball, and track. She enjoys snowboarding and music. She plans to go into nursing, and attend Michigan State University.

Erin Smith
Erin Smith is the daughter of Jerry and Nancy Smith. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and participated in Quiz Bowl as team Captain, Drama Club, BABES, band, and quintet. Her hobbies include riding and spending time with horses, playing musical instruments, and singing. She plans to receive a bachelor's degree and aspires to be a horse trainer/ instructor

or zookeeper. She is undecided on a college.

Jacob Wellnitz, the son of Gary and Shelly Wellnitz, is a member of the National Honor Society, and participated in football, track, and golf. He enjoys snowb oarding, snowmobiling, dirtbiking, fishing, hunting, boating, and wakeboarding. He plans to study environmental science, and enter the Coast Guard or attend college.

MacKenzie Sudol is the daughter of David and Linda Sudol. She is a member of the National Honor Society (president), and participated in YAC, Jr. YAC advisor, BABES, band, Drama Club, Student Council, and volleyball. Her interests include reading and movie/ game nights with friends. She is undecided on her major, and plans to attend Kalamazoo College or Roanoke.

Allison Eberts
Emily Pieri, the daughter of Leroy and Lori Pieri, is a member of the National Honor Society, and participated in YAC, Les Cheneaux Community Foundation Board, Drama Club, Band, Girl Scouts, Mentoring, Youth Group, and Hand Bell Choir. She enjoys reading, writing, playing oboe, and visual art. She in considering teaching as a career, and plans to attend Central Michigan University or Olivet College.

Caitlin Wright is the daughter of Greg and Karen Wright. She is a member of the National Honor Society, and participated in BABES, basketball, volleyball, track, cross country, and golf. Her hobbies are reading and shopping. She aspires to be a physician, and is undecided on a college.

Karissa Schlosser, the daughter of Jim and Becky Schlosser, is a member of the National Honor Society, and participated in Student Council as president, band, BABES, and Woodwind Quintet. She is senior class president. She enjoys figure skating. She plans to major in accounting at Lake Superior State University.
