Margaret Dowd

Margaret Dowd, 90, of Rudyard, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008, at Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing.

She was born in Dibert, June 27, 1917, to Nina (nee Atwell) and Jacob Augustus Rader. She was one of nine children, including Lloyd, Ralph, Augusta, Ardith, Lena, Pauline, Jacob, and Etta.

She married Harold E. Dowd of Fibre November 27, 1937. They lived in Sault Ste. Marie for many years while Mr. Dowd worked for the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Several years after the passing of her husband in 1969, she moved from Sault Ste. Marie to Fibre.

Mrs. Dowd was a member of Fundamental Baptist Church in Kinross, pastored by her greatnephew, the Reverend Tim Rader. Mrs. Dowd was a former member of First Baptist Church in Sault Ste. Marie, where she also served in many capacities.

Mrs. Dowd was a homemaker, and her favorite activities included reading and baking. She also enjoyed making a variety of crafts and painting.

Mrs. Dowd is survived by her two daughters and their families, Desta and Dan Kearney of Grand Ledge and Ardith and Bob Gloden of Lake Isabella. She is also survived by her sister, Etta Thomas of Rudyard and Dimondale. Many other relatives and friends will remember Mrs. Dowd with love and affection, friends said.

Visitation was at Fundamental Baptist Church in Kinross Monday, May 5. Services followed, and Pastor Tim Rader officiated.

Private graveside services and burial were at North Rudyard Cemetery in Rudyard the following day.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Fundamental Baptist Church, 3255 West M-80, Kinross, Michigan 49752, or to the Rudyard Historical Society, P.O. Box 277, Rudyard, Michigan 49780.

C.S. Mulder Funeral Home of Sault Ste. Marie assisted the family with arrangements.
