Voters Say 'Yes' to Hospital Proposal, 1006 to 132
Recount Sought for Mackinac Island Race; All School, Twp. Millages Pass

      A solid victory was clinched by the Mackinac Straits Hospital Authority in the May 6 election, with 1,006 voters approving transfer to a private corporation. Voter approval now clears the way for a new hospital to be built in St. Ignace. Voters opposing the move numbered 132.

      Fourteen years after the death of 16-year-old Marvel Anderson of St. Ignace, the U.P. Cold Case Team is planning to use advanced DNA testing on existing evidence to refresh the investigation, and is asking for the public's help in providing any information that may solve the case.

Tribe Sells 40% Stake in Detroit Greektown Casino
      A 40% interest in the Greektown Casino was sold by the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians to Entertainment Interests Group for $100 million, the tribe reported May 6. The tribe remains the majority owner of the casino in Detroit.

Veterans Affairs Burial Benefits Have Changed
      Veterans Affairs (VA) headstones may now be placed on a previously marked grave dating to November 2, 1990. Any veteran who died after November 2, 1990, is now eligible for a VA headstone even if the grave is marked. Unmarked graves are always eligible for headstone placement, the VA reported.
