Brevort In last week's column, it appeared that Mary Carney had been working in the bookstore, but it was Mary Ann First and Holly Engen who are putting the store in order. Mary Carney was admitted to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City a second time. She is expected home this week. Joe Chalmers was in the Jackson area visiting his brother, Murray, and observing the seed "propellers" falling from the maple trees already. Sharon Chalmers has been in Birmingham with her sister, Andrea Gault. The two then traveled to Grand Rapids, to see the new grandniece. Sharon and Joe had a Mother's Day breakfast here in the village. Denny Rippett called on the Chalmers later that day, and Joe gave him all the environmental news from around and about. The steps at Trinity Lutheran Church are looking mighty fine with a new coat of paint, thanks to the senior youth from Zion Lutheran Church in St. Ignace. They're working hard to make money for their trip to Alaska. Mary First had her first hummingbirds this past weekend. She was prepared with feeders full of sugar water. Lara Gustafson, with Kristi and Morgan, joined grandparents Sharron and Larry Lasley and their great-grandmother, Claris Snyder, for church and dinner for Mother's Day in St. Ignace. Happy birthday to Tom Gustafson May 16, a milestone birthday at the big 65. Have a good day. Barb and Owen Jorgensen are expecting Mike Jorgensen Monday, May 12, as he will be working on the boat at the marina in St. Ignace. He will spend the rest of the week at the home of Barb and Owen in East Brevort. John and Pega Kennedy dined out Sunday evening, celebrating Mother's Day. Tracy Movalson and "Chippy" were home this past weekend. Dave Jr. joined us for dinner out on Mother's Day. Denny Rippett was a dinner guest at our home Saturday evening, as were Dave Jr. and Tracy. Dave Movalson was discharged from Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey Friday morning, May 9, after undergoing appendix surgery. Get well wishes to all who were in the hospital the same time as Dave: Sally Kriesche, Jim Brown, and Randy Marshall, all in for various reasons. Keep well. Janice and Sean O'Boyle are home after a trip to Wyoming. They toured the area and observed a great number of the various species of wildlife that freely roam the meadows and mountain terrain. Kate loves her job. Businesses in the village are looking for traffic to pick up, after a slow time these past few weeks. Kathy Reid has hummingbirds, rose-breasted grosbeaks, and an evening grosbeak at her feeders. Kathy is back to work at the Bay View Inn in Epoufette. Jerri and Jim Rose attended the ruffed grouse banquet Saturday evening, May 10, at Little Bear East Arena in St. Ignace, as did Thora and Jack Shepard and Lee Foster. Jerri Rose has grosbeaks, flickers, hairy woodpeckers, and gold finches at her feeders on Worth Road. Jack and Thora Shepard are grandparents to a new granddaughter, Tayah Ann Shepard, born Monday, May 5. She weighed 9 pounds, and measured 19.5 inches in length at birth. Proud parents are Mike and Helena Shepard of Gros Cap Road. Equally proud siblings are Tucker, Tessa, and Tabitha Shepard, all at home. Nancy Marshall is spending a week at the home. Grandmas are so good at this time. Lee Foster is the proud owner of his first new home, a camper for his pickup truck. Lee reports not many young home buyers can pay cash for their first home. Lee will be working this year for the Young family, who operate the trail head at the Gun Flint trail at Boundary Waters in northern Minnesota. Patti Truman has been awarded an ex-ternship at the hospital in Akron, Ohio. Melissa Foster has accepted a promotion in a management position at University Hospital in Athens, Ohio. Be thankful for where we live. |
