Emily Pieri Receives Highest Score in Oboe at Festival
Emily Pieri, of Cedarville, scored a 93 in Proficiency III on oboe at the Michigan School Band and Orchstra Association (MSBOA) State Solo and Ensemble Festival in Escanaba March 15. This was the highest oboe score in the Upper Peninsula. The Cedarville Woodwind Quintet received a division 1 rating and was nominated to audition for the Michigan Youth Arts Festival. Members of the quintet are Karissa Schlosser, Emily Pieri, Alice Coyne, MacKenzie Sudol, and Erin Smith. The Solo and Ensemble Festival gives individual students an opportunity to perform a selection of their choice.

Three students, Korin Goetz, Nicole Melcer, and Sarah Reed, all of DeTour High School, performed at the MSBOA State Solo and Ensemble Festival March 15 at Central Michigan University. Miss Goetz and Miss Reed both earned a rating of 1 overall, while Miss Melcer received a 2.
Several area schools performed at the MSBOA State Band and Orchestra Festival Friday, April 25, at Les Cheneaux Community Schools in Cedarville. Performances are evaluated by three performance judges and one sight reading judge. They are given a rating from 1 to 5, with 1 being the highest rating.
Both Cedarville High School and Middle School bands received all 1's for their performances. DeTour High School Band earned a 2 rating, with two 2's and a 1 in concert and a 2 in sight reading, for a final 2 score. Engadine High School Band received all 2's in concert and a 1 in sight reading, for a final 2 rating.
