Hello, everyone. For Free Fishing Day last weekend, we spent Saturday, June 7, at the Seney Wildlife Refuge for its 19th annual Children's Day. It was another fabulous turnout, with fishing, prizes, and a wonderful fish dinner.

Thursday, June 12, it's Mexican Day at the Luce County Community Resource and Recreation Center in Newberry. The center is open to all area children.

The First Presbyterian Church of Newberry will host its annual salad luncheon Thursday, June 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

There will be bingo Thursday, June 12, at Newton Township Hall in Gould City. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with bingo starting at 7 p.m. Players must be 18 years old.

The Gould City Eagles Club 4483 has specials every night of the week. Members would like everyone to know the club is open to the public; it's not just for members. The Gould City Eagles Club will have a fish fry Friday, June 13, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and a turkey dinner Sunday, June 15, at 1 p.m. A spaghetti will be Monday, June 16, at 4 p.m. at the Gould City Eagles Club.

It's pizza day Friday, June 13, at the Luce County Community Resource and Recreation Center in Newberry. A dance will be from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the center on West Helen Street. Cost is $3. Everyone is welcome.

The Curtis Community Arts Council announces a one-day dance workshop that will take place at the new Erickson Cultural Center in Curtis Friday, June 13. For more information, and to register for the class, call (906) 586- 9974 and leave a message.

The American Legion Post 290 of Engadine will have a fish fry Friday, June 13, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a breakfast Sunday, June 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the VFW Hall in Engadine.

Father's Day is Sunday, June 15, so plan something special for that day for all of the men who have acted as a father figure in your life, stepfathers, uncles, grandfathers, or "big brothers." Why not make a homemade card and a plate of cookies.
