230 Runners Set New Record at Engadine, Naubinway Race

      The men's 6K and 12K and women's 6K record times were shattered during the 26th Annual Engadine/ Naubinway Black Bear Run Friday, July 4.This year's event also saw its largest field of runners, with 230 participating. Paul Lewis, a junior at Albion High School, won the men's 6K in 20.48 minutes....

      Craig Wallis of Rudyard was named most valuable player for the West Team, which won 3-1 against the East during the 27th annual Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association East/ West All-Star game at Comerica Park in Detroit Tuesday, June 17.

Anthony Lester Scores Ace
      Anthony Lester, an upcoming senior at LaSalle High School, made a hole-in-one shot on hole 6 at St. Ignace Golf Club Sunday, June 29. Lester aced the 275 yard par four hole. It was just the second hole-in-one recorded on that hole. He was playing with high school friend Tyler Mapes.

      Jessica (nee Warren) Kraft, a senior at Western Michigan University (WMU) in Kalamazoo, begins her third and final year on the Broncos cheer team for the 2008-09 season. Mrs. Kraft has cheered for 11 years, beginning with the Junior Saints cheer team in St. Ignace.

      Sienna Heights University in Adrian will hold track and field events and a hurdle clinic at the Robert W. Smith Track in Cedarville Saturday, July 26. Session I is from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and includes shot put, long jump, and pole vault. Session II will be from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

      The Saints of Steel drum band will record its second CD Saturday, July 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the Opera House in Cheboygan. The steel drum band is made up of St. Ignace students and community members. The public is invited to attend the performance.

Kanitz, Campbell Fastest Runners of 7th Annual Les Cheneaux Run and Walk

      Forty-seven runners and walkers, ranging in age from 10 to 73, took to the streets in Cedarville Saturday, July 5, for the seventh annual Les Cheneaux Fun Run and Walk. Lee Kanitz of Hessel was the fastest runner, completing the challenging five-mile course first in just over 30 minutes.
