Summer is in full swing as families enjoy spending time outdoors.
Cindy and Jim Nelson of Tucson, Arizona, are enjoying a few weeks in their hometown of St. Ignace.
Mark Higgins and his son, Will Higgins, of Three Rivers attended the St. Ignace Car Show for their fourth year in June, then continued their camping trip in the Grand Marais area, where they enjoyed many peaceful water falls and the Pictured Rocks.
A phone call came from Bill Demnon Monday, June 30, letting his friends know he arrived in Fairbanks, Alaska. Mr. Demnon traveled for 11 days on his new Harley Davidson, a dream of his for many months.
Pamela Blum, formerly of St. Ignace, was recently deployed by the National Red Cross to drive the emergency response vehicle and to aid victims of the floods in southern Wisconsin. Her duties consisted of bulk distribution, making food available, and disaster assessment.
Dr. Jeff Khaber and Christen Johns of Mount Pleasant enjoyed a visit in St. Ignace on their way north to Grand Marais. The couple are spending time at their summer cottage.
We'll see yachts moored at the St. Ignace Marina next week, as well as at Mackinac Island and Mackinaw City, for the 100th anniversary of the Chicago to Mackinac Yacht Race.

Betty and Wayne Bell of Gobles enjoyed a visit with relatives and friends in St. Ignace last week.
Michael Smith along with his sons, Michael and Mason, of Grand Rapids were happy to be in St. Ignace over the July 4 holiday. Visits with friends and family including Mr. Smith's parents, Denise Smith and Henry Smith. They also spent time with grandmother Mary Edwards.

Bob Smith, owner of the Indian Village in St. Ignace, was a visitor last Wednesday in Grand Marais, where he entertained friends on his guitar with some old familiar tunes.
A "geocaching bash" at Straits State Park was well attended, drawing about 50 people, some from St. Ignace and some traveling from many other parts of the state, Saturday, July 12, reported participant Cheryl Schlehuber. In this event, people hunt for hidden "treasure" caches. Saturday's event also helped teach people how to use geocaching equipment.
Ann and Cleon Moss of Hessel reported they were happy to enter their 1982 Ford Escort station wagon in Antiques on the Bay and the 33rd annual St. Ignace Car Show in June. The local couple won Mayor's Choice in the post war category and received a beautiful plaque.

Our local growers are offering produce at the Farmers Market at the marina each Saturday morning. The market continues all summer.
