Rudyard
Tyler Fountain and Andy Alstrom got the chance to go and see the Detroit Tigers play in Detroit last week. The Tigers did not win, but fun was enjoyed by everyone. Tyler received tickets for his birthday and shared the event with Andy. LeRoy Case was the speaker for the Rudyard Historical Society meeting Thursday, June 12. He recalled memories of Rudyard's Main Street, the businesses, and all of the people who worked on Main Street. He mentioned different jobs he had held, as well as being pastor of different churches and the Chippewa County sheriff. There was a lot of audience response to his interesting stories. He ended with a story about a bear. About 70 people attended the meeting. Carl Stephens spoke at the meeting Thursday, July 10. He told everyone about his work for the Department of Agriculture on pest control. Later, he worked as Chippewa County Extension director in Chippewa County and agricultural agent in Mackinac County. In retirement, his interests include building houses and a log cabin and becoming a Christian financial counselor. The Rudyard Historical Society history book has gone to the printers and is expected to be ready for sale at Summer Fest for $20 each. Jan Reed did the layout and did a nice job. Rudyard residents will be interested to see the many pictures and stories in the book, as well as the family histories. |
