Brevort

Summer weather, where are you? We are weary of your intermittent coming and going.

Jack Dyer of Spring Lake and his friend, Del, of St. Ignace were callers at the home of Jim and Ann Dyer this past weekend. Jim joined them for a trip to Iron Mountain this week.

Karen Henry of Holland and Mark Dykstra of Grand Rapids called on Owen and Barbara Jorgensen this past weekend. They both were students of Owen when he taught piano technique at Michigan State University.

Tracy Movalson and Ed Heenan visited with Owen and Barbara Jorgensen Wednesday morning. Ed flew back to Austin, Texas, via Chicago, where he spent a few days with his daughter and son-in-law, Megan and Ed Eicker, and grandson, Austin.

It has been a great year for strawberries. Bob Jarzynka is just about ready to pull all of the older plants, to make room for the new runners.

Jack and Thora Shepard, along with Barb Merchant and Jim Smith of Indian River, drove to Manistique Saturday, July 12. The rest of the weekend was spent at Trout Lake.

Jack and Thora Shepard joined Russ and Carol Lorente for dinner at a local eatery Friday, July 11.

We've been trying to get some fishing done, but the weather just doesn't cooperate. We took a chance Saturday, July 12, with Eric, Kelli, Amanda, and Zach Movalson. It looked good, until we got out on Big Brevoort Lake, and white caps materialized, seemingly out of nowhere. We did drop our lines. That was futile, so we motored on over to Pete and Kathy Everson's home on the lake. It was warm, and out of the wind. We had a nice visit and it turned out to be a good day after all.

Jeff and Kathy Mitchinson and family of Grand Blanc spent last week at the family cottage, north of the village.

Tracy Movalson and Chippy left for Neenah, Wisconsin, after spending some time with family.

Joe Stewart flew back to Fort Myers, Florida, to return to Brevort Saturday, August 2. Candy Agee and her son, Ross, are staying at the beach house with her sister, Lorie Quigley. Candy and Ross are from Englewood, Florida.

Kay Allott of Sault Ste. Marie has been a guest at the home of Joe Stewart and Lorie Quigley this past week.

Brenda and Mark Spencer are rearranging their gift shop.

Russ Nesberg is tearing down one of the old buildings at the Whitetail Resort. Dave Movalson remembers that building was the old gas station that Carl F. and Ingrid Gustafson built and operated for many years. Dave pumped gas there when he was 15 years old. The building had been moved and renovated as a rental cabin.

Charlotte and Dave DeShetler of Wildwood Lane entertained friends from Arizona Sunday, July 13.

Happy birthday to Lauren Yoder and Sharon Smith July 15, Karl Yoder July 17, and Mike Jorgensen July 19.

Dave sold the last sailboat of the late Bob Flora's to John Spieles of the Newberry area. John is the son of Pete Spieles, who lived in St. Ignace awhile back.
