Local Crews Fight California Fires

The Hiawatha National Forest sent a 20-person crew to California Friday, July 11, to fight the raging wildfires. Crew members are from the St. Ignace district and other areas, although names of the firefighters are not being released by the Forest Service.

The team is expected to be deployed to the Los Padres National Forest, said Mike Aoyce, acting deputy district ranger, although the assignment could change. They are expected to be in California between 14 and 21 days.
