Raymond 'Weebs' Causley
Raymond M. "Weebs" Causley of Hessel, a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, was an outdoor enthusiast and race fan who worked as a contractor and carpenter all of his life. He was 60 when he passed away Sunday afternoon, July 13, 2008, at Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey.

Mr. Causley was born to Raymond Joseph and Loreen (nee Andrews) Causley in Sault Ste. Marie September 17, 1948.

He was graduated from high school in Wadsworth, Ohio. Later, he completed carpentry school in Detroit. Mr. Causley owned AA Builders for many years, working at Mackinac Island, St. Ignace, and throughout Mackinac County.

Boating, fishing, and hunting were among his favorite activities. He also enjoyed taking long rides with Puppy Boy, his dog. A NASCAR enthusiast, Mr. Causley was a fan of racer Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr.

He is survived by his mother, Loreen Causley of Hessel; a son, Michael, who lives in Wadsworth, Ohio; two brothers and their families, Robert P. and Jan Causley of Hessel and Lawrence D. Causley of Fort McDonald, Arizona; three sisters and their families, Sharon Gayle Causley of Sault Ste. Marie, Melanie and Lee Vanderlooven of Sault Ste. Marie, and Valerie and Jim Huffmann of Hessel.

He is also survived by a granddaughter, Angela, of Wadsworth, Ohio, and by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Mr. Causley was preceded in death by his father, Raymond, October 1, 2004; a sister, Patricia Jean, in 1951; grandparents Michael and Alice (nee Smith) Andrews and Perry and Mary (nee Osogwin) Causley.

Visitation began Tuesday, July 15, at 12 p.m. and will continue until Thursday, July 17, at the Hessel Tribal Center. Services will be Thursday, July 17, at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, where Mr. Causley was a member. Father George Vaniyepurackal will officiate.

Burial will be in the Italian Cemetery on St. Ignace Road following a Mass of Christian burial. A Native American pipe ceremony will be at the Tribal Center.

Dodson Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
