St. Ignace Twp. Faces No Challengers Approximately 630 registered voters in St. Ignace Township will head to the polls, facing no ballot propositions and no contests for the township board, as all incumbents remain unchallenged in the August 5 primary. Those running for election are supervisor Dale Nelson, clerk Donna Harju, treasurer Sheryl Schairer, and trustees Donald Shairer and Steven Campbell. The following candidate profile was obtained from questionnaires sent by The St. Ignace News. Candidates not included here did not respond. Township Clerk Incumbent Republican Donna Harju, 72, has held office for 37 years. She attended Wayne State University for three years, studying governmental bookkeeping. She also has taken the Michigan State Election Officials accreditation program. "I have been in office 37 years," she said, "and have learned new things every year. I hope to be of help to the community and the office of clerk for four more years." Road improvement projects and the new sewer system, she said, remain top priorities for the board. |
