Water Warriors Raise Funds for Special Olympics

To raise money for Special Olympics, a group called Water Warriors has embarked on a 400- mile run across Lake Huron. The run began in Mackinaw City Monday, July 21, and finishes Friday, July 25, at Idle Hour Yacht Club on Harsens Island.

The Water Warriors are traveling on personal watercraft and aim to surpass last year's total by gathering more than $110,000.

Water Warriors started in 1991 as a subsidiary of the Wertz Warriors snowmobile endurance ride. The group has raised more than $2 million for Special Olympics.

Each rider has raised a minimum of $1,800 for this run. Some solicit funds through business associates, while others host fundraisers.

The funding they provide helps Special Olympics athletes participate in programs free of charge.
