Mildred Elizabeth "Betty" Baker, 76, of Cedarville, died Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at her home.
She was born June 1, 1932, in Wheaton, Illinois, to Howard H. and Alberta (nee Wilson) Hunter. She grew up and went to school and college in Illinois.
In 1960, she married Glen Patrick Baker, and a few years later, they moved to Cedarville. She worked as the bookkeeper for her husband in his insulation business, Baker Spray-on Insulation.
Mrs. Baker was a member of the New Horizons Church of the Nazarene in Pickford. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, bingo, playing cards, and going to garage sales. She was proud of the bowling and ping pong championships she earned in high school. Mrs. Baker particularly enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by four sons and their families, Joseph and Joanne Baker of Hessel, John Baker of Roseville, Charles Baker of Cedarville, and Bradley Baker of Kinross; five daughters and their families, Alberta Baker of St. Ignace, Barbara and Darryl Cupps of Pleasantview, Tennessee, Adelaide and Ronald Gibbons of Edmore, Jenny and Yanni Kavouras of Fort Myers, Florida, and Betty Jean and Louie John Mayer of Rudyard; and 19 grandchildren, Justin Baker, Jordan Baker, Bradley Sadoski, Sara Sadoski, Zachary Goins, Rebecca Goins, Adam Wright, Amelia Wright, Drew Gibbons, Tyler Tremble, Heather Moody, Shane Sutter, Megan Baker, Heather Gielda, Hiedi Gielda, Elizabeth Johnson, Ashleigh Johnson, Louie John Mayer, and Brett Mayer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Patrick Baker; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Grace Baker-Haines; a brother, Howard Hunter; and three sisters, Verta "Tootsie" Jaskolka, Julia Howell, and Mary Kathrine "Kathy" Dutcher.
Visitation was held Monday, September 15, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford. Services were held Tuesday, September 16, at 11 a.m. at the New Horizons Church of the Nazarene in Pickford, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Reverend Craig Weihman conducted the service. Burial was in Cedar Cemetery in Cedarville.
