Deadline Is January 5 To Sign Up for Class

A two-day construction safety course will be offered Wednesday, January 14, and Thursday, January 15, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Kinross Township Hall in Kinross. The informational program will be taught by facilitator Jim Dykes, a safety consultant. The course does not involve checking businesses for compliance with state safety rules, Mr. Dykes said, but is meant to give a helpful overview of maintaining safety in the workplace.

The 10-hour program outlines regulations for the construction industry set by Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA).

Cost is $30 per person for Upper Peninsula Builders Association members, or $70 per person for non-members, and includes course materials. Contact Brian White at (906) 228-2312 to register. Deadline for registering is January 5.

Detailed information will be presented to enable participants to develop a required accident prevention plan. An overview of MIOSHA inspection procedures will be presented, as well as the most frequently cited violations in the construction industry.

This seminar is part of the MIOSHA Training Institute Level 1 certification program. Participants who complete the course will receive 10-hour cards.

People with disabilities requiring additional services (such as materials in alternative format) to participate in the meeting are asked to call (517) 322-1809.

The MIOSHA program is part of the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth.
