Free Access To Television Needs Converter Box

2009-01-01 / News

In less than two months, the government-mandated DTV Transition will require millions of Americans to take action to maintain access to free, over-the-air television. While supplies last, the federal government is offering two free $40 coupons per household to help cover the cost of digital converter boxes that will keep viewers connected.

People who don't have cable, satellite service, or a new television need to order their DTV converter box coupons in the next few weeks to get their converter boxes in time for the February 17 transition. It takes four to six weeks for coupons to arrive by mail.

Order coupons on the Internet at www.DTV2009.gov. They also can be obtained by calling a 24- hour automated order system at (888) 388-2009, or for TTY service, calling (866) 495-1161.
