New Attorney for Island School Welcomed, Donates to Dance Club
Mackinac Island Public School's new attorney, George M. Brookover, donated $250 to the school's new girls dance club during a school board meeting Thursday, December 18. The senior partner at Brookover, Carr, & Schaberg (BC&S) of East Lansing was introduced by School Superintendent Roger Schrock. He replaces long-time legal counsel, Thrun Law of East Lansing.
Mr. Brookover's contract was approved in November and began December 1. It expires after a sevenmonth probation, July 1,
The board also approved the continuation of the girls dance club, which was started by two Island parents, Julie Rilenge and Allison Sehoyan, last year. The program was, and will continue to be, instructed by Jo Cooley of Mackinaw City.
The club also received donations from board member Jason St. Onge and parent Jack Armstrong and needs another $250 to get through this year.
The club intends to perform during intermissions at girls and boys basketball games.
Board President Ben Mosley appointed Paul Wandrie to chair a newly re-appointed school improvement team and is in the process of appointing nine other citizens to the committee.
The board agreed to pay a $500 entry fee to join the Kent Intermediate School District's Michigan Retirement Investment Consortium, which will serve as a monitoring system for annuities and retirement benefits for school staff.
The board renewed a lease through the Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District for use of 20 laptop computers to be used by students. A four-year, $18,000 lease was set up through the ISD's computer technician, Brian Drumheller, who also serves as the Island school's computer technician.
