Trail Hike, Hotdog Roast Planned for Saturday
Hiawatha Shore-to-Shore Chapter of the North Country Trail Association will host a snowshoe and ski hike Saturday, January 10, at 10 a.m. on M-28 at Soldier Lake to celebrate National Winter Trails Day. The trek will end at the campground pavilion, where a free hotdog roast will be provided.
Winter Trails Day is a national event to celebrate winter and to get people outdoors for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. The North Country Trail is not groomed, however, it is blazed with blue blazes for hikers' convenience. Often, stretches of the trail are untouched, winding along lakes and rivers, through woodlands, and over open fields.
There is no fee for the Winter Trails Event at Soldier Lake and some snowshoes will be available to borrow. Participants are advised to bring a snack and drinking water.
