Saints Wrestlers Place Second at Rogers City Invitational
The Saints' Mike McNeely, top, was named outstanding lightweight wrestler during the Rogers City Invitational Saturday, December 27. Senior Mike McNeely of St. Ignace was named outstanding lightweight wrestler (103-pound to 140-pound class) during the Rogers City Invitational Saturday, December 27, but it was not enough for a victory, as the Saints were edged out by the Gladstone Braves 38-37 for the team championship.
McNeely, wrestling in two weight classes, went 3-0 in the 119- pound class and 1-0 in the 125- pound class. He was selected for the honor by coaches and referees.
The Saints forfeited three weight classes (103 pounds, 215 pounds, and 285 pounds), which, said Coach Bentley, played a factor in the team's overall results.
"We have battled Gladstone to the wire during two invitationals and were defeated by one-and-ahalf points at our tourney and one point at Rogers City," said Saints Coach Harvey Bentley.
The Saints defeated Onaway 53-28, Oscoda 53-15, and Alpena 43-30 in pool play before falling to Gladstone 38-37 for the championship.

The Saints will host Mancelona and Sault Ste. Marie in a tri-match at the St. Ignace Middle School Thursday, January 8, with the meet scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday, January 10, St. Ignace will travel to Newberry for the Indians' Invitational
