The new two-story hospital in St. Ignace started taking shape Monday afternoon, January 12. Workers from Strand Constructors of Bellaire began erecting the structure's steel columns and beams. Thirty columns will be placed in footings and will be connected by several hundred beams, a total of 421 tons of steel. This portion of the construction will take between four weeks and six weeks, depending on weather, said Charlie Livernois, senior superintendent of Skanska of Southfield, the hospital construction management company. The new facility is on North State Street, just south of the Mackinac County Airport. The new two-story hospital in St. Ignace started taking shape Monday afternoon, January 12.
