Janet Rhoden

Janet Rhoden Janet Rhoden Janet Dean Rhoden, 66, of Rudyard, lived in many communities around the country, as well as overseas, during her husband's military career, before returning to her hometown of Rudyard. Mrs. Rhoden died January 14, 2009, at Hearthside in Sault Ste. Marie.

She was born May 6, 1942, in Rudyard to Robert Ralph and Alta Marie (nee Ousterhout) Forgrave.

She grew up in Rudyard, and was graduated from Rudyard High School, where she was selected Homecoming Queen.

After living in Lansing for a short while, she returned to Rudyard and married Darrell William Rhoden, who was stationed at Kincheloe Air Force Base. For more than 20 years, Mr. Rhoden continued his military career and the family lived in Illinois, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Greece, and Battle Creek, before returning to Rudyard.

Mrs. Rhoden was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, ceramics, macramé, oil painting, and bird watching.

She is survived by three sons and their families, Ruel Rhoden of Sault Ste. Marie, Michael Rhoden of Remington, Indiana, and Craig and Fonda Rhoden of Sault Ste. Marie; four grandchildren, Tara, Tasha, Andy, and Ben Rhoden; and one sister and her family, Donna and David Ropp of Scottsdale, Arizona.

Mrs. Rhoden was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell; her parents; one sister, Annie Forgrave; and one grandson, Darrell William Rhoden.

Services were held Saturday, January 17, at Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford. Visitation was from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. with the funeral at 5:30 p.m. Family and friends were invited to a luncheon at the Rudyard Bible Church following the service.

Burial will be in Kinross Township Lakeview Cemetery in the spring.
