Vehicle Accident Claims Life of Newberry Man

A two-car collision on M-28 near the intersection with County Road 403 in Luce County took the life of a 23-year-old Newberry man, Micheal Jago II, and injured two Michigan State Police troopers from the Newberry post Monday evening, January 26.

The troopers were traveling on M-28 when their patrol vehicle collided with Mr. Jago's car, which had proceeded through the intersection. Circumstances of the crash are still under investigation.

Mr. Jago was pronounced dead at the scene. He is the son of another local law enforcement officer, Luce County Undersheriff Micheal Jago. There were no other occupants in his vehicle.

Troopers Christopher Archer and Donald Carrick both sustained serious injuries and were transported to Helen Newberry Joy Hospital before being transferred to Marquette General Hospital.

Mr. Archer has been transferred for further treatment to Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, the Newberry Police Post reported Thursday, January 29.
