Members of the Les Cheneaux Snowmobile Club will be busy Saturday morning, February 14; the club will be hosting two events during the 2009 annual Les Cheneaux Snowsfest.

Some of the club's 107 fulltime members will be serving pancakes and sausages for breakfast in the Cedarville school cafeteria, while others will be hosting an open house at the group's clubhouse on Blindline Road later that morning.

Club member Frank Harness said he expects more than 100 people to attend each event, which are both open to the public.

The pancake breakfast will start a little earlier this year to allow volunteers at other weekend festival events enough time to enjoy the meal, Mr. Harness said. Breakfast will be from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and cost $6 for adults, $4 for ages five to 12, and is free for children age 4 and younger. Proceeds will help fund club operation costs.

In keeping with the Snowsfest "Wild, Wild West" theme, "some pancake servers are going to be wearing cowboy hats and scarves" while serving, he said.

Cedarville summer residents Mike and Collene Hamberg took the lead to organize the breakfast this year after the club took a year off in 2008.

Before the last breakfast is served at 11 a.m., other snowmobile club members across town will open the doors of their clubhouse to the public.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the club will hold an open house to show off its new trail groomer, talk about the 104 miles of trail the club is responsible for grooming, and encourage new memberships.

"We're always looking for new members, especially the younger ones," Mr. Harness said. "We got a brand-spankin' new groomer and we want to show that off, too."

Mr. Harness encourages anybody interested in snowmobiling to stop by the open house this weekend.

Many other events are scheduled Friday, February 13, through Sunday, February 15, during the 2009 annual winter festival, including cardboard sled races, spaghetti dinner, pub shuffle, snowman burning, children's snowmobile races, ice rescue demonstration, ice fishing contest, cross country skiing, poker tournament, chili cook-off, horse drawn sleigh rides, craft show, dog talent show, an an ice golf tournament.
