St. Ignace/Les Cheneaux Systems Win Districts

The St. Ignace/Les Cheneaux Systems Squirt B hockey team won the District Championships in Cheboygan. Toby Ferguson scored the winning goal 51 seconds into the second overtime to lift the St. Ignace/Les Cheneaux System (SLS) Squirts Hockey Team to a 4-3 district championship win over Cadillac Squirts at the Cheboygan Ice Pavilion Sunday, February 8.

Ferguson collected a pass from Anne Eberts and Hunter Frazier to set up the goal.

The team, with a 32-3-3 record on the season, advanced to the state finals, to be held in Lapeer Friday, March 20, Saturday, March 21, and Sunday, March 22.

SLS lost to the same Cadillac team in the tourney opener. Hunter Frazier and Jack Styes scored the two goals and, in the nightcap, SLS skated to a 4-4 tie with Sault St. Joseph's Carpenters. Jack Styes scored two goals and Kody Rickley and Hunter Frazier recorded single scores in that game Friday, February 6.

SLS defeated Cheboygan Werner Plumbing and Heating 5-1 Saturday, February 7.

Dylan Danielson played outstanding in goal during the entire district weekend series, noted SLS coaches.

SLS skated to a 6-1 win over Sault War Memorial Hospital in the tourney semifinals.
