      The U.P. Pond Hockey Tournament brought a boost to the local economy last weekend, with most motel rooms sold out, restaurants kept busy, and crowds of about 3,000 were entertained as they competed and watched the sports action on the ice of Moran Bay in St. Ignace.

Ambulance Millage on May Ballot
Clark Township
      Clark Township residents will vote whether to approve a fiveyear, 0.75 mill tax levy Tuesday, May 5, to fund two full-time emergency service workers in the Clark Township Volunteer Ambulance Corps. The Clark Township Board of Trustees approved adding the millage language to the ballot at its Thursday, February 19, meeting.

      Owner Ira Green is asking to turn McNally Cottage bed and breakfast into a three-apartment home for seasonal employees on Mackinac Island, and the Planning Commission, meeting Tuesday, February 10, set a hearing for for 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, for public discussion of the change of use for the commercially zoned property.

      Festive promotional banners will hang from downtown lampposts in St. Ignace this summer. Using a consistent and readable format, each banner will highlight a specific event or activity. The banners will include an illustration and provide just enough information that would be noticeable to residents and visitors driving or walking along State Street.

256 Vintage Snowmobiles Draw Crowds at Naubinway's Annual Show
      This year's Antique and Vintage Snowmobile Show in Naubinway featured 256 entries, including eight featured as homemade sleds, Saturday, February 21. Snowmobiles were displayed along US-2 in Naubinway during the free show.

Michigan Snow X Races Hit the Track Saturday
Several Local Competitors Announced
      Several local snowmobile snow-cross racers will be among those competing on a track of jumps, moguls, and obstacles in a Snow X Race Saturday, February 28, at Kewadin Shores Casino in St. Ignace. The races are a part of the 2009 Michigan Snow X Series. Spectator tickets are $10 per day. There is no admission fee for children ages six and younger.
