Winterfest Is Saturday
Contests, cook-offs, and a bonfire will highlight DeTour Village's annual winter festival Saturday, March 7, featuring activities for all ages.
Many of the activities will be centered around the DeTour Village Hall on Superior Street. Cooking contests, mini ice and snow sculpture contests, and sled decorating for children are planned. A bonfire will be offered throughout the day, and visitors will be treated to free hot cocoa and marshmallows.
Most of the activities will begin at 10 a.m. and finish by 3 p.m. Afterward, there will be karaoke with 60's and 70's music beginning at 8 p.m. at the Village Inn.
Cooking contests include a brownie bake-off, red chili cookoff, baked bean cook-off, and wings cook off. Judging begins at 11 a.m. The hot wings eating contest will begin at 12:45 p.m. These events require registration by calling (906) 297-5024 or (906) 297- 3231.
A children's sled-decorating activity will take place at 10:30 a.m. Participants can decorate sleds beforehand.
The theme for this year's snow sculpting is "architecture." Participants may duplicate a favorite building, in snow. Cash prizes will be awarded for best individual entries and a traveling plaque will be given for best business entry. Judging is at 9:30 a.m.
A snowshoe sprint for both children and adults begins at 1 p.m. Snowshoes are available.
A snowmobile poker hike will start at the Village Hall and continue around DeTour. Registration is from 10 a.m. to noon, and all poker run cards must be turned in before 5 p.m. at DeTour Shell.
Tickets for the raffle drawings, including a 50/50 and general raffle, will be sold at the Village Hall. Drawings will be announced between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
