Saints, Trojans Advance to State Regionals

The St. Ignace Saints won the District 93 girls basketball championship with a 68-39 win over the host Manistique Emeralds Friday, March 6. The St. Ignace Saints and the Cedarville Trojans both advanced to the regionals in the Michigan High School Athletic Association tournaments with district championship wins Friday, March 6.

The Saints defeated the host Manistique Emeralds 68-39 for the Class C crown, and the Trojans downed the Brimley Bays 71-41 for the Class D title at Pickford.

In the Class C regionals at Escanaba, the St. Ignace Saints (21-1) will battle the Iron Mountain Mountaineers (9-12) and the Houghton Gremlins (22-1) will take on Munising (19-3) in the semifinals Tuesday, March 10. The championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, March 12.

The Cedarville Trojans won their third consecutive Class D district championship with a win over the Brimley Bays Friday, March 6. Photo) LaSalle High School in St. Ignace will host the Class D regionals, with the Cedarville Trojans (20-3) taking on the Harbor Light Christian Swordsmen (16-6) and the Superior Central Cougars (16-6) to battle the Gaylord St. Mary Snowbirds (17-5) in the semifinals Tuesday, March 10. The championship game is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, March 12.
