Cedarville Girls Win Regionals; Boys Districts
The Cedarville Trojans took the Class D Region 31 championship with a triple overtime win over Superior Central Thursday, March 12. The Cedarville girls basketball team needed triple overtime to advance to the state quarterfinals for the second consecutive year, with a regional title win over Superior Central, 74-72, knocking off Harbor Light Christian 66-44 in the regional semifinals.
Cedarville's boys team captured the district championship with victories over DeTour, 64-45, and Pickford, 93-53.
The Cedarville Trojans won the Class D district 123 championship game with a win over DeTour Friday, March 13. Coach Sonja Duncan and her Trojans girls team, 21-3 on the season, will face the Ontonagon Gladiators (22-2 overall) of the Copper Country Conference in the Negaunee quarterfinals Tuesday, March 17. The winner will move on to the state semifinals at the Convocation Center on the campus of Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 19.
The Class D finals are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 21.
Coach David Duncan and his boys team, with a 23-1 overall record, opened regional play at Sault Ste. Marie High School with a 66-50 win over Harbor Light Christian (17-5) and Big Bay de Noc (18-5) defeated Gaylord St. Mary (16-6) 56-45 Monday, March 16. The championship game is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, at 7 p.m.
