Eagles Drop District Finals to Big Bay
The Engadine Eagles closed out their season with an 8-14 overall record after falling to the host Big Bay de Noc Black Bears 54-42 during the Class D district 124 championship game Friday, March 13.
"I was pleased with our effort," said Eagles Coach Elmer Albright. "Big Bay defeated us by 20 or more points twice this season. I thought we played much better."
The Black Bears led 13-6 after the first eight minutes and held a 13- 11 scoring edge in the second quarter for a 26-13 halftime lead.
Big Bay de Noc increased its lead to 44-29 with an 18-12 scoring advantage in the third quarter before Engadine outscored the Black Bears 13-10 in the final eight minutes.
Eagles statistics: Phillip Hood, 19 points, four assists, two steals; Killian Frisch, 11 points, eight rebounds; Michael Klobucher, seven points, six rebounds, three assists; Devon Derusha, three points; Kyle Bednarski, two points, four rebounds.
Eagles Advance to Finals
The Engadine Eagles advanced to the Class D district finals with a 59-47 win over the Grand Marais Polar Bears Wednesday, March 11.
The Polar Bears held an 18-16 scoring edge after the first eight minutes before the Eagles outscored Grand Marais 20-6 in the second quarter for a 36-24 halftime lead.
Engadine increased its lead to 53-36 with a 17-12 run in the third quarter. Grand Marais closed out the game with an 11-6 scoring run in the final eight minutes.
