Waving their pinwheels over their heads, Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians Head Start students get ready to make a garden of the wind toys, in recognition of child abuse prevention month. The garden will be on display through April at American Legion Park on State Street in St. Ignace. Mary Swiderski, coordinator for the Child Protection Round Table, planned the project. The organization oversees the Children's Trust Fund for Mackinac County, which receives about $10,000 a year. The funds are used for child abuse and neglect prevention. This month, children around the state are making similar gardens, said Mrs. Swiderski. Children pictured are (from left) Alexia Pemble, Brianna Paquin, Liberty Cullen, Carter Boucha, Helena St. Onge Kissinger, Lesley Tremble, and Elizabeth Colegrove.
