Four Saints Receive Honors During Basketball Banquet

(Photograph by LaSalle yearbook staff) Four St. Ignace varsity basketball players received top honors during the annual banquet to honor the Saints varsity and junior varsity hoops and cheerleading teams Monday, March 23.
Gerrit Mortensen received the Most Valuable Player Award. The junior was named to the All- Upper Peninsula Class A-B-C, Straits Area Conference (SAC), and The St. Ignace News All- Area Teams while averaging 21 points per game, collecting a season high of 35 points in one game, and leading the team with 73% shooting from the free throw line.
Senior Tyler Mapes earned the King of the Boards Award after leading the Saints with a teamhigh average of nine rebounds per game and averaging 10 points per game with a seasonhigh 18 points. He shot a combined 48% from two- and threepoint range and received All- Upper Peninsula, All-SAC, and All-Area honors.
Senior Anthony Lester and sophomore Austin St. Louis received Leadership Awards.
Lester averaged 10 points per game with a season-high game total of 21 points, and shot 70% from the free throw line. He received All-SAC and All-Area honors.
St. Louis averaged 12 points per game, collecting a seasonhigh score of 19 points in one game. He has a total of 16 blocks during the season. He received All-SAC and All-Area honors.
Junior Evan Everson received special mention All-Area honors and averaged four points per game, scoring a season-high 12 points in one game.
Remaining members of the team include sophomore Cole Christensen, junior Kevin Guillard, junior Mike Barthelemy, and sophomore Grant Simmons, who was moved up to the varsity team late in the season.
