Sixty-five Athletes Honored on The St. Ignace News All-Area Girls, Boys Hoops Teams

The St. Ignace Saints 2008-2009 basketball team that completed the season with an 11-10 overall record includes (front, from left) Grant Simmons, Evan Everson, Gerrit Mortensen, Anthony Lester, Cole Christensen; (back) Austin St. Louis, Tyler Mapes, Head Coach Jason Marshall, Assistant Coach Adam Matelski, Kevin Guillard, and Mike Barthelemy. Twenty-five seniors, 26 juniors, 12 sophomores, and two freshmen were named to The St. Ignace News' all-area basketball teams. They are as follows:

Girls Basketball

Dream Team: Senior Amanda Coveyou and sophomore Nicole Elmblad of St. Ignace, seniors Jessica Duncan and Ashley Sweeney of Cedarville, and senior Lauren MacArthur of Engadine.

First Team: Seniors Billie McLeod of Cedarville and Shannon Browning of Engadine, and juniors Emily Jeffreys of Rudyard, Callie Smith of Pickford, and Jessica Graham of Brimley.

Defensive Team: Juniors Samantha Radecki and Kristen Olsen, and sophomore Grace Wheeler, all of St. Ignace, senior Kelly Graham of Brimley, and sophomores Kacie Rutledge of Engadine and Hope Wittmus of Cedarville.

Second Team: Senior Marcie Rickley and sophomore Chelsea Swope of St. Ignace, junior Jillian Collins of Cedarville, senior Jenna Somes of Brimley, and sophomore Leah Wallis of Rudyard.

Third Team: Seniors Megan Arbic and Jasmine Ledy of Pickford, seniors Erin Jarvie of Rudyard and Brenda Albrecht of Engadine, and junior Nicole Melcer of DeTour. Special Mention:

St. Ignace: Senior Kayla Gustin and junior Mallory LaLonde.

Engadine: Junior Kayla Miller and freshman Krista Metcalf.

Mackinac Island: Senior Michi Mullings and sophomores Marie Bunker and Morgan Brodeur- Bunker.

DeTour: Juniors Kieah Barbeaux and Abby Stocking and freshman Darci Wilson.

Rudyard: Sophomore Rebecca Malaski.

Pickford: Sophomore Justine Hatfield.

Brimley: Junior Courtney Wilson and sophomore Sydney Beaune.

Mackinaw City: Senior Cheyene Withey.

Boys Basketball

Dream Team: Senior C.J. Paquin of Cedarville, junior Gerrit Mortensen of St. Ignace, seniors Chastin McKelvie and junior Arik Hesselink of Rudyard, and junior Mckinley Portice of Pickford.

First Team: Senior Tyler Mapes and sophomore Austin St. Louis of St. Ignace, senior Taylor Smith of Cedarville, senior Mickael Cantin of Pickford, and junior Scott Coffey of Rudyard.

Second Team: Seniors Anthony Lester of St. Ignace, Michael Gamble of Mackinac Island, and juniors Drew Otten of Rudyard, Andrew Jaroche of Cedarville, and Tyler Anderson of DeTour.

Third Team: Seniors Luke Murray of Cedarville, Tyler Mc- Lean of Mackinac Island, and Devon Derusha of Engadine, and juniors Adam Alexander of Mackinaw City, and Davin Salo of Rudyard.
