Free Press Recognizes Area Girls With All-State Hoops

Cedarville's Jessica Duncan was named to the state's Class D first team, Nicole Elmblad of St. Ignace received second team Class C honors, and Amanda Coveyou of St. Ignace was honored with a sixth team award by The Detroit Free Press Sunday, April 12.

Benefit Spaghetti Dinner

for Football All-Star Players

A benefit spaghetti dinner will be held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Timmy Lee's Pub in St. Ignace Sunday, April 19, to honor four St. Ignace Saints football players who were selected to play in the Upper Peninsula All-Star Football Game Saturday, June 20, at the Superior Dome in Marquette. Honored players are Tyler Oja, Rob Robinson, Kyle Smock, and Andy Tamlyn.

Melvindale AB&T Stripped

of Class C State Crown

Melvindale Academy Business and Technology Gators boys basketball team was stripped of its Class C state championship this year by the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) after the team activated a fifth year senior player, in violation of MHSAA rules.

The Gators defeated Schoolcraft for the state title Saturday, March 28, and for the record, there will be no champion in Class C for 2009.

Teams To Be Honored

Awards Ceremony

The St. Ignace Saints varsity and junior varsity girls basketball teams and their coaches will be honored during an awards ceremony at the Village Inn Restaurant in St. Ignace Wednesday, April 15, at 6 p.m.

Soup and salad will be offered to those who attend.

Saints Bowling Team

To Hold Banquet April 15

The Saints high school bowling team will hold its annual awards banquet at Gateway Lanes in St. Ignace at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 15.

Both teams were coached by Terri Allan, assisted by Jay Allan and Derek Rutledge.
