Stanton Man To Serve Prison Term for June Fire on Island

Japhett Gallagher, 23, of Stanton, was sentenced to three to 10 years in state prison and was ordered to pay $40,514 in restitution for a conviction of arson to Mackinac Island property over $10,000 by 11th Circuit Court in St. Ignace Thursday, April 23.

The incident happened at Island House's employee housing, referred to locally as the "red house," in the early morning of June 24, 2008.

Mr. Gallagher, a worker on the Island at the time and a boyfriend of one of the dormitory's occupants,

apparently set fire to the apartment after an alleged argument

with his girlfriend. No one was injured, however, there was extensive damage to the apartment and several employees were displaced until the building was repaired.
