Eino Mackie
Eino Mackie Eino Henry Mackie, 85, of Rudyard, was a World War II veteran who worked in lumber camps as a young man and then worked for automotive companies. Mr. Mackie died Saturday, May 2, 2009, at his home.
He was born February 20, 1924, in Rudyard, the son of Finnish immigrants Frank Victor and Lempi Anne (nee Haapanski) Mackie.
Mr. Mackie grew up in Rudyard and worked in various lumber camps as a young man. He served in the Unites States Marine Corps during World War II. He then worked as a guard at the prison in Marquette before moving downstate and working for General Motors in Pontiac and for Ford Motor Company in Wixom. In 1986, when he retired from Ford, he moved back to Rudyard.
Mr. Mackie was a lifetime member of the English-Wallis VFW Post 4905 in Rudyard. He was an avid hunter. He also did some trapping and fishing. Most of all, he enjoyed being in the woods, cutting firewood.
He married Patricia Louise Farley June 6, 1992.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters and their families, Joan and Louie Crevier of Watkins, Colorado, and Karen Baaka of Sanduski; one stepdaughter and her family, Kelly and Bob Barrett of Hohenwald, Tennessee; one stepson, John Gardner of Arvada, Colorado; one grandson and his family, Jamie and Carri Mackie; and one step-grandson, James Daniel "JD" White. Also surviving are two sisters, Aune Hill of Barton City, and Marian Koski of Spring Lake, and two sisters-in-law, Vi Maki and Gay Maki.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Arvo Maki, Frank Maki, and Ernest Maki; two brothers in-law, Ernest Hill and George Koski; and by his second wife, Lois Mackie.
Inurnment will be in North Rudyard Cemetery in Kinross Township.
Reamer Galer Funeral Home of Pickford assisted the family with arrangements.
