Local Police Departments Step Up Seat Belt Enforcement

Police in Chippewa, Delta, Mackinac, Marquette, and Menominee counties will begin a twoweek "Buckle Up or Pay Up, Click It or Ticket" enforcement campaign Monday, May 18, through Sunday, May 31.

Enforcement campaigns like this have contributed to Michigan's high seat belt use rate and decline in fatalities, they report.

Michigan law requires drivers, front seat passengers, and passengers younger than 16 in any seating position to be buckled up. Children must be in a car or booster seat until they are eight years old or four feet, nine inches tall.
