Trojans Boys, Bays Girls Defend Track Titles

The Cedarville Trojans boys team won their third consecutive Division III regional track and field championship with Coach Ryan Wilson. Athletes who competed at Pickford Friday, May 15, include (not in order) Jordan Baker, C.J. Paquin, Clayton Meyers, Luke Murray, Adam Dingman, Tyler Kanitz, Andrew Figures, Jordan Huff, Paul Eberts, James Mitchell, Zach McFarlane, Matt Hill, Rex Rohrer, Charlie Nelson, Brent Heerspink, Matt Schlosser, Michael Kenny, Ian McGreevy, Patrick Baldwin, and Martin Payment. The Brimley Bays girls track and field team and the Cedarville Trojans boys team raced in the Division III track and field championships with victories in Pickford Friday, May 15, with the top four individual winners and first two relay teams qualifying for the Upper Peninsula Finals at Kingsford Saturday, May 30.

This was the third consecutive regional crown for the Trojans, with Coach Ryan Wilson.

The Bays, coached by Joyel Hyvarinen, have finished first in all of the invitationals and tournament matches this season and won 13 of 17 events and scored in 22 races at Saturday's championships.

The Bays recorded 88 points in the girls division, followed by the Pickford Panthers with 43, Engadine Eagles 18, DeTour 15, Cedarville Trojans 6, Mackinac Island 3, and Maplewood Baptist Academy Black Bears 1.

In the boys division, the Trojans tallied 75.5 points, followed by Pickford with 30, Engadine 22.5, DeTour 19, Brimley 18, Mackinac Island 10, and Maplewood Baptist Academy 0.

Cedarville's Jillian Collins set a new school record in the pole vault with a height of 8'0. She broke the previous mark that was held by Rebecca Bickham, who set a record of 7'6."

Becky Rader became the first athlete from Maplewood Baptist Academy to qualify for the U.P. Finals with a fourth place finish in the shot put.

Pickford: Katie Jenkins, first in discus (100'6.5"), first in shot put (33'0"); Katie Raynard, second in pole vault; Jasmine Ledy, second in 800; Stacy Beard, third in 800; Justine Hatfield, third in high jump and long jump; Brandi Kopitz, third in 3200, fourth in 1600; Amanda Felty, third in pole vault; Kristine Cline, fourth in 100 and 200; Kristi Gough, fourth in low hurdles; Callie Smith, fourth in 400.

The Panthers' 400-, 800-, 1600- , and 3200-meter relay teams finished second.

Engadine: Lauren MacArthur, second in high hurdles, fourth in the high jump and long jump; Katie Hobbs, second in the 400, third in low hurdles; Tia Browning, third in 100 and 200; Jackie Formolo, third in shot put; Kacie Rutledge, fourth in discus; Morgan MacArthur, fourth in 800.
