Gamble won the title at Newberry in 2008 under poor weather conditions. At Gladstone, the tournament started with light rain, but improved with sunny skies later in the round.

Gamble, who plans to walk on the golf team at Saginaw Valley State University, won the Eastern Upper Peninsula and Division 3 individual titles in 2008 and 2009.

"I felt after the first eight holes that I had a chance to repeat after one over par," said Gamble. "The key was keeping my grips dry and playing steady golf without getting into trouble."

The Lakers' Paul Fisher tied for fifth place with a score of 83 and the Mackinac Island team finished in seventh place (363) out of 18 teams, as Thomas Rilenge recorded 91 and Tyler McLean 112 to round out scoring.

The DeTour Raiders was the top girls team from the Eastern Upper Peninsula after a sixth place finish during the Division 3 Upper Peninsula State golf championships at the Gladstone Golf Club Thursday, May 28.

Mackinac Island Lakers, Pickford Panthers, Mid Peninsula Wolverines, and Rapid River Rockets posted no team scoring.

Tie for Fourth Place

The St. Ignace Saints' Tyler Mapes and Jeffrey Gamble tied for fourth place after carding 84's during the Division 2 Upper Peninsula Golf Finals at Ishpeming Friday, May 29.

Patrick Sweeney shot 92 and Lawrence O'Boyle 143, while the Saints finished 10th overall.
