Bays Girls Repeat Title; Set Six School Records
The Brimley Bays girls track and field team defended its Division 3 championship with a win at Kingsford Saturday, May 30. The Brimley Bays girls track team repeated as Division 3 Upper Peninsula state champions and set or tied six school records during the track and field finals at Flivver Field in Kingsford Saturday, May 30.
School Records
The 3200 meter relay team of Megan Parish, Kelly Graham, Miranda Reattoir, and Lynnette Carrick finished first in record time of 10:38.98. The 800 meter relay foursome of Rachel Carruthers, Taylor Wilson, Becca Carruthers, and Jessica Graham placed second in 1:53.18. Jessica Graham tied a school mark with a first place in the high jump at 5'4." Becca Carruthers finished second in low hurdles in 49.44, Rachel Carruthers finished second in the long jump with a leap of 15'10", and Miranda Reattoir placed sixth in the 1600 meter run in 5:48.50.

"We were focused all season and our team goals were to repeat as U.P. champions, but it took a lot of hard work to reach this level," said Bays Coach Joyel Hyvarinen. "We also wanted to bring back pride to our program and the effort has paid off. We finished the season in style."

The Bays tallied 84 points, followed by Crystal Falls-Forest Park with 68, North Central 47, Pickford 40.5, North Dickinson 40, Superior Central 37, Ontonagon 36, Rapid River 32, Bark River-Harris 31.5, Big Bay de Noc 30, Dollar Bay 28, Lake Linden- Hubbell 27, Mid Peninsula 27, DeTour 8, Baraga and Watersmeet 2, and Bessemer and Carney- Nadeau 1.

The Trojans 1600 meter relay team is (from left) Zach McFarlane, Luke Murray, Charlie Nelson, and Clayton Meyers. Brimley: The Bays won three events, finished second in three races, third placed in two, fourth place in three, and fifth and sixth placed in one event. The 1600 meter relay team of Rachel Carruthers, Becca Carruthers, Alexis Mason, and Jessica Graham finished first in (4:26.23) and the 400 relay group of Taylor Wilson, Megan Carrick, Lynnette Carrick, and Alexis Mason placed fourth. Alexis Mason took third in 100 meter dash and sixth in 200 dash; Jessica Graham placed third in 200 meter dash; Sydney Beaune finished fourth in discus; Lynnette Carrick placed fifth in 3200 run.
Pickford: Katie Jenkins, second in discus, third in shot put; Brandi Kopitz, fourth in 1600 and 3200 meter runs; Justine Hatfield, fourth in high jump; Amanda Felty, fifth in pole vault; Jasmine Ledy, sixth in the 800 meter run. The Panthers 3200 meter relay team of Jasmine Ledy, Jenna Ledy, Callie Smith, and Brandi Kopitz placed second. The 1600 relay foursome of Stacy Beard, Callie Smith, Jenna Ledy, and Jasmine Ledy placed fifth.

The Cedarville Boys finished third during the Division 3 track and field finals at Kingsford Saturday, May 30.
Team Results
Crystal Falls-Forest Park won with a team total of 75 points, followed by North Dickinson with 72.5, Cedarville 63.5, Rapid River 60, Ontonagon 48, Engadine 38, North Central 36, Lake Linden- Hubbell 28, Painesdale-Jeffers 28, Pickford 19, Brimley 15, Mid Peninsula and Baraga 10, Bessemer 8, Dollar Bay 6, DeTour and Big Bay de Noc 4, and Superior Central and Bark River-Harris 1.

Cedarville: C.J. Paquin, first in long jump at 19'9.5", sixth in 200 meter dash; Jordan Baker, third in high hurdles and high jump, fifth in high hurdles; James Mitchell, third in shot put; Clayton Meyers, fifth in 800; Michael Kenny, sixth in pole vault; Zach McFarlane, sixth in 400; Tyler Kanitz, sixth in low hurdles. The Trojans 3200 meter relay team of Luke Murray, Clayton Meyers, Tyler Kanitz, and Michael Kenny and the 1600 meter relay foursome of Charlie Nelson, Zach McFarlane, Luke Murray, and Clayton Meyers finished second.
