Firefighters worked for 20 minutes before the blaze was contained at Nancy's Place in St. Ignace Tuesday, June 2. No residents were injured and they were relocated to a nearby motel by the American Red Cross. No one was injured but residents were displaced when a fire ignited in "Nancy's Place" on North State Street in St. Ignace Tuesday, June 2, at 4:30 p.m. The fire is believed to have started in the building's attic, and it then spread into a second-floor apartment, Fire Chief John "Bucky" Robinson said. The first floor sustained smoke and water damage.

The source of the fire has yet to be determined, although Mr. Robinson does not believe foul play was involved.

State Street was closed off for 30 minutes while firefighters worked to control the fire.

Owing to the heavy smoke and water damage to the building, four families have been displaced. Residents of Nancy's Place were moved to a nearby motel with the help of the American Red Cross.

Doreen Howson, executive director of the Diane Peppler Resource Center, which owns the building, is also working with the residents while Nancy's Place is repaired.

Nancy's Place is used as affordable rental housing by the resource center, and is made up of four apartments.
