Friday, July 3, there will be the bake sale for Friends of the Animals at Cedarville Foods, and the Lions Club whitefish dinner at Cedarville High School. More ... Some much needed rain is gently falling in the village this Monday morning, June 29. Walkers are needed for the Relay for Life Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18, in St. Ignace. The survivors' walk will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, and the lighting of the luminaries at 9:30 p.m. I hope to walk in the survivors' lap. Join me and the many others who will be there. More ... The Ramelis family of Gould City will host Filip Walczak, a 15- year-old from Poland, as an exchange student through a Michigan State University Extension Service program. Filip will be with the Ramelis' through Sunday, July 19. Filip has been to 4-H Expo Days in Lansing, saw the St. Ignace Car Show, and will watch the local Independence Day parades. More ... It was a busy, fine-arts filled weekend in DeTour Village. Judging from the number of people attending and participating, the Art Festival Saturday, June 27, was a great success. This invitational, non-judged show allowed some of our very best area artists to share their work with the public. More ... Wow, St. Ignace's Antiques on the Bay car show is over, as well as our 34th Annual Car Show. What a great success the shows were. Lots of planning takes place from year to year by Ed Reavie of Nostalgia Productions and many others helping him. More ... Speculation is rife in marine circles over the proposed consolidation of the United States Coast Guard Service with the Navy. More ... The 2008-2009 school year has come to a quick conclusion. Every school year seems to move a little faster than its predecessor. Brick demolition work continues on the old school building, with most brick removed from the roof line down to the top classroom windows. These bricks will be replaced with a modified facia. More ...
