July 4 Events Planned
Activities Announced in St. Ignace, Mackinaw City, Curtis, Naubinway, Trout Lake, DeTour, Les Cheneaux
      A listing of Independence Day observances planned throughout the area. St. Ignace Crowning of the royal court Thursday, July 2, will begin St. Ignace Fourth of July festivities, which will include a parade, Fire Department public picnic and open house, and fireworks.

EUP Women Knit Hats for Soldiers
      A group that began in the EUP and now includes people from areas as diverse as Rudyard, Bay City, Grand Blanc, and Brooklyn, New York, have banded together to knit and crochet hats and send them to ill and wounded American troops overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Youngsters Splash Into Lessons at St. Ignace Community Pool
     A group of nine youth gathered at the community pool in St. Ignace Thursday, June 25, for swimming lessons between 10 a.m. and noon. Lifeguards and water safety instructors pictured (not in order) are Donna Goldthorpe, Abigail Chambers, Kelsey Cryderman, and Alexa Thibault. The swimmers (in no particular order) are Skylar Dumas, Zachary Erskine, Nicholas Erskine, Sarah Doran, Ben Doran, Jordan Osmon, Katlyn Donajkowski, Angela Donajkowski, and Martin Donajkowski. Changes made to the swimming program include adding more certified lifeguards at the pool (at least two on duty at all lessons) and building improvements like roof repairs, deck resurfacing, and locker room repainting and retiling. Recreation Director Scott Marshall said every year, steps are taken to improve the community pool, and this year it's ready for residents to enjoy.
