O'Rourke and Zeitler, Boogie 2 Shooz Will Perform
Concerts at St. Ignace Marina
      This week's concerts: MJ Bishop will perform Wednesday, July 1, and the Saints of Steel drum band will perform Thursday, July 2. Both concerts are at 7 p.m. at the St. Ignace Marina. Next week's concerts: Siusan O'Rourke and Zig Zeitler will be featured in a Locals on the Bay concert Wednesday, July 8, at 7 p.m. at the St. Ignace Marina.

'Movies Under the Stars' Returns to St. Ignace
      "Movies Under the Stars" will return to St. Ignace this year, bringing a large inflatable movie screen outside Little Bear East Arena for free, outdoor movies with a "drivein" feel. The showings, hosted by the City of St. Ignace, will take place at dark Thursday, July 2, and Friday, July 3.

Paleo Joe To Speak at St. Ignace Library July 6
      Paleontologist Joseph "Paleo Joe" Kchodl will speak Monday, July 6, at 7 p.m. at the St. Ignace Public Library. He will bring his collection of fossils and artifacts from his digs all over the world, and introduce children to animals, plants, and creatures that have been extinct for millions of years.

Music in Mackinaw Concert Is July 4
      Straits Area Concert Band will perform for the "Music in Mackinaw" concert series Saturday, July 4, at 9 p.m. at Conkling Heritage Park in Mackinaw City. The Straits Area Concert Band will perform until the Independence Day fireworks display begins. The Northern Gospel Singers and vocalist Suzanne Stark will also perform during the concert.

      Laurel Christian and Joseph Petro were united in marriage Sunday, June 21, 2009, in an outdoor ceremony on the waterfront in Spring Lake with Pastor Dave Cheadle, brother of the bride, officiating. Providing vocal music were the groom's daughter, Melissa, and the bride's daughterin law, Amber.

Mackinaw Woman's Club Hosts Strawberry Social Saturday
      The Mackinaw Woman's Club will host its eighth annual Old Fashioned Strawberry Social Saturday, July 4, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the marina lawn in Mackinaw City. The Strawberry Social offers a dish of ice cream and strawberries served over a freshly made biscuit for $4.

Youth Boating Safety Courses To Begin in Les Cheneaux
      Two-session boating safety courses will be offered at the Clark Township Fire Hall in Cedarville Thursday, July 9, and Friday, July 10, as well as Tuesday, August 4, and Wednesday, August 5. The classes are required to obtain a boating license. All classes will be given by Mackinac County Sheriff Deputy Tom Sherlund from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Jonathan Davis
      Chad and Jennifer Davis of Milford announce the birth of a son, Jonathan Richard Davis, born April 18, 2009, at Providence Hospital in Novi. He weighed 9 pounds, 1 ounce at birth and measured 21.5 inches in length. He joins three brothers, Nathan, 10, Anthony, 8, and William, 6, at home.

Wyers Joins Chamber Staff for Summer; Hours Extended
      Audrey Wyers of St. Ignace is home for the summer after her first year at Alma College, and is using her free time to help the St. Ignace Chamber of Commerce handle a busy summer workload. Miss Wyers is one of many workers in the area temporarily employed through a Michigan Works! program, which funds their pay and provides them to community organizations free of charge.

Wrestling Events Planned at Arena
      Young wrestlers ages five and up will arrive Sunday, July 5, at Little Bear East Arena in St. Ignace for the Mack-Attack Wrestling Camp, which will culminate Saturday, July 11, with the Battle at the Bridge wrestling tournament.

     Helen Thompson of St. Ignace was the winner of a new automobile in the Kewadin Casino car giveaway during the St. Ignace Car Show. "I am very excited and in disbelief," Mrs. Thompson said.
