Brevort

By Lois Movalson 292-5581

Some much needed rain is gently falling in the village this Monday morning, June 29.

Walkers are needed for the Relay for Life Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18, in St. Ignace. The survivors' walk will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, and the lighting of the luminaries at 9:30 p.m. I hope to walk in the survivors' lap. Join me and the many others who will be there. The walk will continue Saturday. You may contact me for information.

John and Pega Kennedy, Pat and Jeff Cranson, and Pat's mother, Bev, took in the St. Ignace Car Show Saturday, June 27. John and Pega joined Tom and Joyce Gustafson Sunday, June 28, for a picnic and fishing on Tom and Joyce's pontoon boat on Big Brevoort Lake.

Business seemed to pick up in the village this past weekend.

The hummingbird feeders are quieter as the birds are nesting. Soon they will be back, nipping at the sugar water.

Happy belated wedding anniversary greetings to Paul and Tammy Shepard of Sangor, California.

Jack and Thora Shepard attended the wedding of Laura Christian and Joe Petrol in Spring Lake this past weekend. This week, they witnessed the wedding of Katie Yeager and Troy Cronk in Petoskey.

Jack Shepard's garden is in and will certainly benefit from the rain. Friday, June 26, Thora's cousin, Bob Oullette, from Detroit and his son, Rob, of Columbus, Ohio, visited the Shepards at their home on Fisherman's Drive. The cousins were on their way to Channing for a shooting competition.

It's that time of the summer Dave and I enjoy the best. The grandchildren are here, Amanda and Zachary, along with their parents, Eric and Kelli, and the pets, Snickers, Butterscotch, and Hershey. (Reese passed on in early spring.) Time will be spent fishing on Big Brevoort and playing cards on rainy days.

Denny and Jackie Rippett arrived home Sunday evening, June 28, from a visit with their granddaughter, Kara Sokal, who lives and works in Calumet. Kara is head of the Calumet Main Street Improvement Committee. A festival was held there this past weekend to help raise money for projects for the betterment of the city. A pastie contest was one of the contests of which Denny was to determine the best tasting and best looking pastie, out of about five categories. Denny was in the parade, where he tossed beads and candy to the children lining the street.

Last week, I mentioned that Marilyn Smith of Livonia enjoys reading The St. Ignace News so much. She called me Sunday, June 28, to express her surprise to see her name in the paper. She knew it must have been her nephew, Donald Lawson, who mentioned her name to me. It was.

Enjoy your Fourth of July. Keep safe, and hug your kids.
