Engadine-Gould City
The Ramelis family of Gould City will host Filip Walczak, a 15- year-old from Poland, as an exchange student through a Michigan State University Extension Service program. Filip will be with the Ramelis' through Sunday, July 19. Filip has been to 4-H Expo Days in Lansing, saw the St. Ignace Car Show, and will watch the local Independence Day parades. He also will make a trip to the Detroit area to see the zoo, a Detroit Tigers baseball game, and meet some relatives of his in the area.
The Gould City Eagles will have a fish fry Friday, July 3, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. It is open to the public.
The American Legion Post 290 of Engadine will have a fish fry Friday, July 3, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the American Legion/VFW Memorial Hall in Engadine. Cost is $8 for ages 10 and older, $5 for children age 6 to 9, and free for children age five and younger. There also will be a 50/50 raffle.
The Hulbert American Legion Post 393 will have a fish fry Friday, July 3, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome.
The Feneley-McNeil-Nesbit American Legion Post 290 of Engadine reports that any men or women who have served in the U.S. military who would like to be a member of the Engadine Post may get in touch with Commander Phillip Linck at (906) 477-6269, or any officer. Annual dues are $35. There also is a Ladies Auxiliary. Ladies who are interested in joining are asked to advise any post officer, who will pass on the message so that there can be a followup by the Auxiliary. Post 290 has many programs which help the local community, including scholarships. The 2009 academic scholarship winners were Ashley Weichlein and Brenda Albrecht, both of Naubinway. Post 290 is now responsible for Veterans' Hall. This has provided a permanent place to meet and to schedule events. They have remodeled the restrooms and brought the kitchen up to code. The hall is available for rent.
Gracie, 3, and Danielle Koerner, 10, of Gould City are all smiles after their successful fishing day with their parents. The Grief Share group will meet Monday, July 6, at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Wing of Bethel Community Church. Grief Share is a support group for community members who have lost a loved one. Glenn "Casey" Cook of Newberry (left) and Tyler Freeman of Engadine took first place Wednesday, June 24, in a fishing tournament. Tyler, 13, caught the first two fish of the event, winning the "Big Bass" pot with a 2 pound, 7 ounce smallmouth. The tournament was held on South Manistique Lake in Curtis.
