Wow, St. Ignace's Antiques on the Bay car show is over, as well as our 34th Annual Car Show. What a great success the shows were. Lots of planning takes place from year to year by Ed Reavie of Nostalgia Productions and many others helping him.

The next event is our annual Fourth of July parade. The parade starts Saturday, July 4, at at 1 p.m. The parade begins at the corner of Stockbridge and North State streets and travels south along State Street, ending on McCann Street. There will be fireworks Saturday evening, and there will also be fireworks each Saturday evening in St. Ignace throughout the summer months.

St. Ignace musicians in the LaSalle High School Saints of Steel drum band will be among performers in the "Biggest Little Town Parade in Michigan" in Curtis Sunday, July 5, at 12:30 p.m.

Locals on the Bay will be every Wednesday at 7 p.m., and Bayside Live every Thursday at 7 p.m. The free concerts take place on the marina.

Derek Rutledge joined the U.S. Army and is presently at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, for nine weeks of basic training. His address is: PVT Rutledge Derek B., Unit 31 Charlie Company, 741 Iowa Avenue, Fort Leonard Wood, MO 65473. Please write "Platoon 3" on back of envelope. Derek is the son of Renee Bruce and Mike McNeely of St. Ignace.

Chris Hagen and her daughter and son-in-law, Maren and Tom Harness of Kalamazoo, attended "Bark in the Park" for the first time with their pet, Scooter. Maren and Tom are spending a few days with Chris and having a fun time.

Anna (nee Smith) and Robert Sansumg were visitors for a few days in St. Ignace, Anna's hometown. While here, they attended the car show and visited friends and relatives.

Katie and John Taylor are proud to announce the birth of Dominic Riley, born Monday, May 18. Grandparents are Denise and Don Orr of Cheboygan. Great-grandparents are Paula McCrory and the late Vernon McCrory of St. Ignace. Dominic is Paula's first grandchild.

Belated birthday greetings to Sam LaVake and Darla Leonard June 30.

Belated anniversary greetings to Kim and Dave Latva June 28. Hope your day was special.

Amber Welch of El Paso, California, was home for a week to attend the funeral for her grandfather, Jack Fenlon.

Castle Rock is celebrating 80 years of ownership in the Eby family. Clarence and Helen Eby opened for business July 5, 1929. This is the fourth generation, reports Arlene Eby, and she says Fourth of July weekend the family will go back in time and charge grandpa's price, 10¢. "Climb for a Dime" was his motto.

Arlene Eby is entertaining family members this week. Her son and daughter-in-law, David and Theresa Eby, with their children, Adam, Kate, and Sara, of Ypsilanti, will be in St. Ignace through the Fourth of July. She says she will be busy cooking, but it will be fun.

Rosalie (nee Smith) and Don Picard are happy to have their daughter, Amber, and granddaughters, Kylee and Michaela Picard, moving to this area from Muskegon. They are enjoying activities around the area.

Happy birthday to Darren LaVake July 4, Destiny (nee Blair) Stenberg July 9, and Melvin Paquin July 10.

Henry Smith has been on Hog Island for a few days doing handyman work for Tom and Sandy Jacobs. They own a store and cabins on West US-2.

Jim Kosek of Chicago arrived in town last week for the summer. He tells me he loves the Upper Peninsula as it's not crowded, people are friendly, and he likes the slower pace after retiring from a career as a heavy equipment operator in a busy city. This will be his third summer in the Upper Peninsula. He also enjoys local history.

Don Howe reports a birthday gathering was held at the home of Alice and Don Howe Sunday, June 21. The occasion was to celebrate their three sons' birthdays, Tim, June 2, Bob, June 17, and Ron, June 25. Approximately 75 happy people gathered for an afternoon of games, including horseshoes. A great time was had by all.

Bill and Marian King enjoyed a visit from Heidi Erickson of St. Paul, Minnesota. Other recent visitors were Barry, Creighton, and Aidan King of Bloomington, Indiana. The grandsons, Creighton and Aidan, love to play with grandpa's trains. Bill, a World War II veteran, was interviewed for the Veterans History Project, which will be sent to the Library of Congress. Future summer visitors will be Cai and Perris King of Fresno, California, and Lorraine Adams Dulecki and Lorre Frank of Madison Heights. Gary and Carol Adams of Madera, California, will stop by in September, on their way to Marquette for Gary's 50th reunion from Northern Michigan University.
