Prescribed Burn Conducted in Seney

Seney National Wildlife Refuge will conduct a series of prescribed burns this summer. A test burn was conducted to confirm burning conditions Thursday, June 25, followed by additional burns Friday, June 26, and Saturday, June 27. Further burning will depend on weather conditions. Friday's burn impacted a portion of the fishing loop, resulting in the loop being closed for the day.

The burns are done to enhance habitat for a number of species of wildlife, including marshland song birds, whitetail deer, black bears, and sharptail grouse. Along with enhancing habitat for wildlife, these burns also reduce fuel loading to reduce the severity of wildfires.
