Kenneth 'Dale' Horrom
Kenneth 'Dale' Horrom Kenneth Dale Horrom, 72, of Rudyard, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, at Mackinac Straits Hospital in St. Ignace.
He was born May 17, 1937, in Rolla, Missouri, the only child of Argo Kenneth and Betty Dale (nee McConathy) Horrom.
Mr. Horrom grew up in Rolla, and earned his bachelor's degree at North East Missouri State Teacher's College. He taught in Iowa for two years, Kalkaska for six years, and in Guam for four years, where he earned his master's degree, before coming to Rudyard. He taught school in Rudyard both before and after he worked as athletic director in the prisons at Kincheloe for 10 years. During his retirement, he taught school in Missouri for two years and at the Red Bird Mission (affiliated with the United Methodist Church) in Beverly, Kentucky, for three years.
He married Susan Louise Gosling September 8, 1957, in Kalkaska.
He and his wife, Sue, did extensive volunteer work with the Methodist Nomads, traveling in their motor home to various places to rebuild churches, schools, and homes.
Mr. Horrom was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rudyard, where he served as a deacon and was the Junior High Youth Group leader. He was also active in Lions International.
His family and students were a joy to him, friends said, and he also delighted in coaching football, wrestling, and basketball. He enjoyed bird watching, fishing, hunting, hiking, and hobby farming.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters and their families, Heidi and Steven Hoolsema of Rudyard, Katherine "Kate" and Mark Hoolsema of Rudyard, and Anna and Sungyeol Cho of Chandler, Arizona; four sons and their families, Kenneth Arthur and Elizabeth Horrom of Petoskey, Peter Horrom of Burbank, California, Todd and Kori Horrom of Rudyard, and Thomas and Melanie Horrom of St. Clair Shores; 17 grandchildren and their families, Shawn and Kori Sneller, Christy Sneller, Arthur and Lindsey Sneller, Amy and Jim Joel, Steven Hoolsema, John Dale "J.D." and Tanya Hoolsema, Tammis Favorite, Tara and Cheyne Corey, Jennie and Rocky Cope, Hannah Horrom, Kendahl Horrom, David Hoolsema, Katrina Hoolsema, Adrian Cho, Abigal Horrom, Noelle Horrom, and Kelsee Horrom; 11 great-grandchildren Noah Rowder, Haley Rowder, Jayden Sneller, A.J. Sneller, Trista Sneller, Dayton Sneller, Josiah Cypher, Allysah Hoolsema, Macayla Corey, Audrey Corey, and Sadie Corey.
Services were Monday, July 13, at 7 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Rudyard with the Reverend J. H. Vanlal Hruaia conducting the service.

Reamer Galer Funeral Home in Pickford assisted the family with arrangements.
