Historical Association Receives Conservation Bookshelf
The Les Cheneaux Historical Association was awarded a set of preservation books, online re - sources, and guides to assist in the preservation and cataloging of its objects and artifacts June 17. The association is one of 907 museums, libraries, and archives to receive the "Connecting to Collections Bookshelf" from the Institute of Museum and Library Services in Washington, D.C.
The collection of resources addresses such topics as the philosophy and ethics of collecting, collection management and planning, emergency preparedness, and culturally specific conservation issues.
"We are very excited to receive this much needed resource, as we begin a comprehensive project to register and catalog the objects held in our Maritime Museum," said Curator Cathy Hallowell at the Cedarville museum.
Other institutions in northern Michigan to receive the resources include the Delta County Histor - ical Society in Escanaba in Feb - ruary 2008, and Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie in August 2008.
This is the third and final installment of the resources program. Overall it has awarded a total of 2,751 sets of resources and guides. The program was made possible through an agreement with the American Associ - ation for State and Local History and support from the Getty Foundation, Henry Luce Founda - tion, and Samuel H. Kress Foun - dation.
The agency is the primary source of federal support for 123,000 libraries and 17,500 mus - eums around the nation.
